Our process - How we work

Whether we're building a software solution, or developing a new strategy, we follow a unique approach to project development built on the principles of systems thinking and design thinking. This method has six stages, each designed to propel a project forward while ensuring it remains clearly aligned with larger goals and vision. The process is non-linear, allowing us to iterate and adapt as we go, so that we might circle back to a previous stage at any point or incorporate the insights or systems of one stage into another.

Story

Stories are fundamental to human thought and culture. They bind communities, shape identities, and create meaning. As Yuval Noah Harari has argued, stories underpin all large-scale human collaboration, be it nations, corporations, or religions. These shared myths and narratives grant power and facilitate culture-building. By starting with a compelling story, we establish a strong foundation for uniting and inspiring the team and stakeholders.

Objective

To define the energy, vision, and context behind a project.

Activities

  • Establishing a clear definition of the focus area.
  • Identifying key experts and stakeholders in the focus area.
  • Conducting empathy interviews and observations to understand perspectives and needs.
  • Reviewing the organizational or philosophical vision to understand (and make clear) the relationship between the organization and the focus area.
  • Documenting existing narratives and reframing them into a broader context using a Narrative Framework.

Deliverables

  • Narrative Document
  • Stakeholder Profiles
  • Empathy Maps
  • Network Maps
  • Story deck

Ideation and Planning

Ideas can pop up out of nowhere, but we can also kickstart them using the Base6 Ideation Framework, a tool for defining a problem and rapidly finding an approach to solving it. Once we have sketched the idea, AI can help map it into a full plan, allowing us to quickly see the bigger picture and catch any surprises early on. This process also allows us to swiftly cycle between brainstorming and planning, ensuring we don’t waste time on ideas that won’t work. Plus, this streamlined approach lets us involve team members and stakeholders early on, ensuring everyone is on the same page from the start.

Objective

Transition from idea generation to detailed planning, ensuring early team alignment and the efficient evaluation of each concept's viability.

Activities

  • Host team members and stakeholders in one or more online ideation sessions.
  • Use an Ideation Framework and AI to define the problem or challenge.
  • Work with AI to develop a full project roadmap with milestones, responsibilities, budget, and timelines.

Deliverables

  • Problem Statement
  • Vision and Mission
  • Deliverables
  • Budget
  • Roadmap

Evaluation

Continuous evaluation avoids the pitfalls of tunnel vision and ensures adaptability. As systems evolve and change, so must projects that operate within them. We ensure relevance, efficacy, and alignment by embedding evaluation throughout the project lifecycle using an evaluation framework that brings together Ai and expert evaluators to quickly and efficiently gather feedback and insights.

Objective

To provide continuous feedback and adapt the project accordingly.

Activities

  • Initial assessment during the Ideation and Planning stage to evaluate feasibility and alignment.
  • Periodic check-ins throughout the project lifecycle to gather stakeholder and expert feedback.
  • Applying systems thinking to evaluate ripple effects, unintended consequences, and potential systemic impacts.

Deliverables

  • Evaluation Framework
  • Feedback Reports
  • Adaptation Recommendations
  • Performance Metrics

Launch

The modern world is saturated with initiatives and ideas. A well-orchestrated launch captures attention and galvanizes support, ensuring that a project doesn't get lost in the noise. It’s an opportunity to emphasize the project’s story and its potential impact, engaging the necessary stakeholders, and inspiring supporters.

Objective

To introduce the project to the larger community and gather support.

Activities

  • Organizing a launch event showcasing project objectives and potential impact.
  • Engaging potential stakeholders through marketing, promotions, and targeted outreach.
  • Establishing initial performance indicators and success criteria.

Deliverables

  • Launch Plan
  • Promotional Materials
  • Stakeholder Engagement Report
  • Launch Event Agenda & Materials
  • Network Directory
  • Engagement

Build and Scale

A project’s value is ultimately determined by its tangible outcomes. The Build stage translates vision into reality, providing concrete evidence of the project's worth and feasibility. Without this phase, the project remains an abstract concept, devoid of real-world impact.

Objective

To turn the project plan into a tangible outcome.

Activities

  • Developing prototypes or pilot versions of the solution.
  • Iteratively refining the solution based on real-time feedback from the ongoing Evaluation stage.
  • Providing regular (and easy to digest) updates to stakeholders and supporters.
  • Documenting the process and results for transparency and replication.

Deliverables

  • Prototypes
  • Progress Reports
  • Process Documentation
  • User Testing Outcomes

Completion

Completion doesn’t just signify the end; it provides a moment of reflection, integration, and learning. By celebrating achievements and contemplating replication or future endeavors, this stage ensures the project’s long-term legacy. Moreover, by integrating project outcomes into the original story that inspired it, it reinforces the narrative’s power and prepares the ground for future projects.

Objective

To close the project loop, celebrate, and strategize for the future.

Activities

  • Organizing an event or gathering with stakeholders to acknowledge achievements and share learnings.
  • High-level evaluation to gauge the project’s success and areas of improvement.
  • Story, video, and other social media posts that places the outcomes as the next chapter in the original story.

Deliverables

  • Completion Event Plan
  • Post-Project Evaluation and Report
  • Replication Guide
  • Story
